Credits & BYOK

Credits are the currency for SEO data services on Visibility.so. This page explains how credits work, what consumes them, and how to reduce costs with your own API keys.

How Credits Work

Credits are a dollar-based balance in your account. When you run SEO data pulls — like AI Visibility checks or keyword ranking queries — credits are deducted from your balance at fixed rates. Your credit balance is shared across all projects and agents in a company.

AI Visibility Checks

Each AI Visibility check queries an AI provider with your configured topics and measures brand mentions.

Keyword Ranking Pulls

Each keyword ranking pull retrieves the current search engine position for a keyword.

Example: Tracking 100 keywords weekly for a month (4 pulls) costs approximately $20.00.
Credits are only consumed for data pulls. Creating tasks, managing agents, and using the platform interface are free.

Top-Up

Add credits manually at any time:

Go to Billing

Open Billing from your company settings.

Enter an Amount

Specify the dollar amount you want to add to your credit balance.

Confirm Payment

Credits are added instantly after payment processes.

Auto-Recharge

Never run out of credits by configuring auto-recharge:
  • Threshold: The balance level that triggers a recharge (e.g., $5.00)
  • Refill amount: How much to add when the threshold is hit (e.g., $20.00)
When your balance drops below the threshold, the refill amount is charged to your payment method and added to your balance automatically.
Set your threshold slightly above your expected daily spend to avoid interruptions in scheduled checks.

Transaction History

View a complete log of all credit transactions from the Billing page:
  • Top-ups and auto-recharges
  • Individual check costs with timestamps
  • Running balance after each transaction
  • Filter by date range or transaction type

BYOK (Bring Your Own Keys)

BYOK lets you connect your own DataForSEO API credentials so that keyword ranking pulls bypass the credit system entirely.

How It Works

When BYOK is active for a project:
  1. Keyword ranking requests go directly to your DataForSEO account.
  2. DataForSEO charges appear on your DataForSEO bill, not your Visibility.so credit balance.
  3. Zero credits are consumed for keyword-related features.
BYOK applies only to DataForSEO-powered features (keyword rankings). AI Visibility checks always use platform credits regardless of BYOK status.

Setting Up BYOK

Get Your DataForSEO Credentials

Log in to your DataForSEO account and locate your API login and password.

Open Project Configuration

Navigate to your project and open the Configuration tab.

Enter DataForSEO Credentials

In the DataForSEO section, enter your API login and password.

Save and Verify

Save the configuration. The platform will verify your credentials with a test API call.
Once verified, all keyword ranking pulls for that project will use your DataForSEO account directly.

When to Use BYOK

Use BYOK When

  • You already have a DataForSEO account
  • You track a large number of keywords
  • You want predictable DataForSEO billing
  • You need high-volume ranking pulls

Use Platform Credits When

  • You’re just getting started
  • You track a small number of keywords
  • You prefer a single bill for all services
  • You don’t want to manage external API accounts
